After Killing Powder Springs Woman, Man Shoots Himself: Police

In the wake of the Sunday night murder-suicide, the Cobb police said they're trying to reach the shooting victim's relatives in Nigeria.

POWDER SPRINGS, GA — A 44-year-old man shot and killed a Powder Springs woman on Sunday night and then turned his gun on himself when police in Polk County tried to pull his vehicle over, according to the Cobb County police. The Cobb police said Monday that they're investigating the murder-suicide and working to notify the woman's relatives in Nigeria.

Cobb police officers were dispatched at 10:05 p.m. Sunday to the report of a person shot at a home in the 2200 block of Manatee Court in Powder Springs, a police report stated. When they arrived, they found the body of the unidentified woman in the front yard of the residence; the police said she had sustained a gunshot wound.

"The victim is believed to be Nigerian and efforts are continuing to notify her next of kin in Africa," the police said in a statement Monday. The Cobb County Medical Examiner will determine the manner and cause of the woman's death.
