1 Dead, 29 Displaced After Marietta Apartment Complex Blaze

MARIETTA, GA — One person was killed and 39 people became displaced after a blaze erupted at the Hamptons at East Cobb Monday morning.
Twenty-nine units at the Roswell Road apartment complex suffered fire, water and smoke damage, according to Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services.
The person who died has not been identified.

The fire department is partnering with the American Red Cross to help displaced residents.
First responders were alerted to the massive fire around 11 a.m. after a Marietta police officer saw smoke coming from the area and called it into emergency dispatch, according to a Nixle alert from the Marietta Police Department.

When crews arrived, they say heavy flames coming through the roof, fire officials said. Fifty firefighters responded to the scene.
The Marietta Fire Department responded along with the Cobb County fire department.
The cause and origin of the fire are being investigated.
