An Art-Filled Evening at Marietta Square
Marietta Square Art Walk celebrates the arts Friday, June 5.
Marietta Square Art Walk celebrates the arts Friday, June 5, and continues every first Friday through November. Art galleries, museums, boutiques and restaurants host local artists and musicians from 5 to 9 p.m. during this free, self-guided tour. Visitors can purchase art amid a backdrop of 19th century buildings while enjoying the intown culture and small town charm the Marietta Square is known for.
Artwork and live music will fill all corners of Marietta Square. Dancers from the Georgia Metropolitan Dance Theatre will perform among event-goers. The Beer Garden, located behind Cool Beans Coffee, hosts live music by Jennings Music, Scarlet Wool and singer/songwriter Tony Hall.
Several Marietta Square galleries will host their art openings during Art Walk. Original landscapes and cityscapes will be feature in the show titled “Oh the Places You’ll Go!” at dk Gallery. On Church Street, 2 Rules Fine Art hosts artist Lynn Edwards giving a paper mosaic collage demonstration, and Lenny’s Hair Salon features photography by Jennifer Blount. “Metal” will be the theme at Red Door Art Gallery and Studio.

The guest judge this month for the “Best of Show” award will be Sally Macaulay, Executive Director of the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art (MCMA). “I think Art Walk is helping establish Marietta as the Art Hub of Cobb County,” says Macaulay. “If you haven’t been to an Art Walk in Marietta, you are missing the boat. Great time, great friends, great art.”
MCMA’s Education Director, Rachel Rhule, also serves on the Art Walk committee. “The Marietta Square’s Art Walk is a fantastic collaboration, not only of visual arts, but music, dance, and performance art as well,” says Rhule. ”These evenings are made for all members of our community to enjoy, and gives everyone a chance to get out, have some fun, and take in the sights and sounds of our great local artisans who we can all be proud of.”
