Suspect In Custody, Hostage Released After Marietta SWAT Standoff

A suspect barricaded himself and hostages inside an Arkose Drive residence, blocking major Cobb County roads for hours.

MARIETTA, GA -- A felon barricaded himself and a hostage inside a Marietta halfway house for several hours on Tuesday, causing a SWAT standoff that eventually was resolved peacefully. Around 8:45 am Tuesday, police said they were alerted by Jenna Born, 38, and James Gniewkowski, 23, that a male suspect, now identified as Frank Malone, 43, was holding them at gunpoint since Monday night. Born and Gniewkowski told police they'd been able to escape but that a third victim, Sydney Cahall, 27, was still at the Arkose Drive residence.

Cobb County SWAT and negotiation teams responded, and after several hours of negotiating, Malone released Cahall and then gave himself up without incident.

Malone was charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
