Cobb Man Killed As Motorcycle Hits School Bus

Police say the 51-year-old man from Marietta was speeding as he rounded a curve Tuesday afternoon.

MARIETTA, GA — A 51-year-old man from Marietta was killed Tuesday when the motorcycle he was riding skidded out of control and hit a school bus carrying several children.

Cobb County Police say George A. Leverett II was driving his bike "much greater than" the posted 25 m.p.h. speed limit on Milford Chase near Mill Creek Court at about 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Investigators say Leverett was going around a curve when his Yamaha bike left his lane, flipped over and slammed into a Cobb County school bus driven by Cathy J. Vanzandt, 46, of Austell. Leverett was pronounced dead at the scene.
