Atlanta Man Shot By Cobb Officer During Traffic Stop

The GBI said the man pulled a gun from his waistband though the officer instructed him to not do so.

MARIETTA, GA — The man who was shot by a Cobb County officer Wednesday night during a traffic stop has been identified as a 31-year-old Atlanta man.

The shooting took place around 10:15 p.m. on Interstate 75 southbound near Delk Road.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said the officer had noticed a gun in the man's waistband during the stop and told him not to reach for it. The GBI said the man pulled the gun from his waistband, and then, was shot by the officer.

After the shooting, the man tossed the gun out of the driver's side window, the GBI said.

He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition, the GBI said. No officers were injured in the shooting, the GBI said.

The case will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney's Office once the GBI's investigation is completed.

This is the 18th shooting involving a police officer the GBI has been requested to investigate this year.
