Man Killed In Cobb Police Shooting ID'ed As Foreign National
Authorities have identified the Guatemalan national, who was the subject of a removal order, killed in a Cobb County Police shooting.

MARIETTA, GA — A Guatemalan national was killed in a police shooting around 10:45 p.m. Sunday in the area of Bradley Avenue, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Tuesday.
Responding officers were canvassing the area after hearing multiple gunshots, police said. Shortly after, 911 calls came in regarding an armed person in the area, police said.

According to the GBI, possible gunshots had been fired near a home in the 30 block of Bradley.
When officers arrived on scene, the GBI said they established a perimeter around the front of the home, where 27-year-old Hermelindo Morete-Dista then exited with a gun in his hand.

Police said they gave Morete-Dista commands to drop the gun, but he did not comply. He was accused of then pointing the gun toward the officers.
That is when several officers shot at Morete-Dista, hitting him multiple times, the GBI said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.
No officers were injured in the shooting, police said.
An active removal order had been issued against Morete-Dista, the GBI said.
Once the GBI's investigation is completed, the case file will be given to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
