Coding languages are the heart of our interconnected world. Kids need to understand digital language regardless of what career they pursue.
Computer programming languages are used in developing web pages and mobile applications and although our children won’t be using Java, Python or Ruby to chat, learning to code may be the most important second, third or fourth language your child will ever learn.
Many parents rush to buy the latest game app or game console for their child every time the latest and most popular ones come on the market. What if we turned playing in to creating, designing and programming which could help meet the demands of a changing world.

Many industry experts predict learning computer science will not only pave the way for future employment prospects but will ultimately accelerate the U.S. economy.
Unfortunately there are no guarantees computer science will be offered at your child’s school; in fact there’s a very good chance it won’t be. Many schools boast state of the art computer labs, but often these computer labs are dark rooms not being used because the school systems have not implemented a curriculum in computer science. This is leading many parents to enroll their children in courses outside of school which will help their child learn computer science. These parents are strategic thinkers and planners of the child’s future.

Despite efforts to interest women to study computer science in the United States, there has been a steady decline over the past decade and only 12% of degrees are awarded to women in computer science and engineering.
Why are we behind in this area? Many blame our pre-college curriculum. We are not preparing our students out of high school to compete globally in the areas of computer science and engineering when we are 25th or 28th in the world ranking for math and science.
Children absorb information like a sponge and that is why children have a much easier time of learning a second language than adults. The same is true for computer literacy, the earlier we focus children in the area of science and technology, the better prepared they will be to immerse themselves into careers in these fields which ultimately have the most opportunities.
