Deceased Marietta Man, 69, Found In Driver’s Seat, Police Say

Police are investigating a collision where a Marietta man was found dead behind the wheel Dec. 19.

COBB COUNTY, GA — A fatal vehicle collision that occurred Thursday morning on Barrett Lakes Boulevard south of Big Shanty Road left a 69-year-old Marietta man dead, according to the Cobb County Police Department.

The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Unit is investigating the accident that was discovered at around 4 a.m. There were no witnesses, but a passerby called 911 after noticing a black 2008 Honda Accord off the road in front of 2878 Barrett Lakes Boulevard.

Officers on the scene found a deceased male in the driver’s seat who was identified as 69-year-old James W. Wilson of Marietta. Wilson’s next of kin has been notified. Investigators said the Honda was traveling north on Barrett Lakes Boulevard and for unknown reasons failed to negotiate a left curve. The Honda left the eastern side of the roadway and collided with a retaining wall in front of 2878 Barrett Lakes Boulevard.

This collision remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3987.
