A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to help with the legal defense of the Atlanta man who rushed the stage during a Donald Trump campaign appearance.
"Tommy DiMassimo rushed the stage not to promote violence, but to speak out against it," according to the website. "Trump quickly moved to vilify Tommy's character falsely claiming he had ties to ISIS. In order for Tommy to join the national activist movement against Trump, he must raise $25,000 for his legal team."
DiMassimo rushed the stage during a March 13 rally in Dayton, OH. DiMassimo tried to reach the podium with the intent on calling the GOP presidential frontrunner a racist. He was tackled by police before he made it to the podium. He's been charged with several misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct.
DiMassimo has strong local ties to Cobb County and the city of Atlanta. His mother is a former Cobb County transportation director, Faye DiMassimo, reports the AJC.
Faye DiMassimo is now administrator of the city of Atlanta’s infrastructure bond program.
The GoFundMe campaign originated in Powder Springs, GA, in west Cobb County.
Trump is now the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, having won a decisive victory in Tuesday's Indiana primary. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas has dropped out of the race, while Ohio Gov. John Kasich is reportedly deciding whether to continue his campaign.
