In a collection of poems inspired by the Atlanta music scene, Atlanta's own musician/playwright/poet, Sara Crawford (of Pocket the Moon/voted Best Local Vocalist in Creative Loafing's Best of 2011), takes us through a journey of the unappreciated indie musician playing night after night in smoke-filled dive bars all for the love of music. Every poem in this collection references an indie band that has played in Atlanta, specifically at the Drunken Unicorn, The Earl, or the Star Bar. Paying tribute to the entire metro area of Atlanta (OTP and ITP alike!), Driving Downtown to the Show serves as a love letter to this growing city and its diverse artists.
In celebration of the book of poems, a book release party will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2012 on the roof of The Strand in Marietta at Brew with a View from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM featuring poetry from the book performed by Sara Crawford and musical performances from Atlanta artists, Low UFO, Juliana Finch, and nerdkween (voted Best Local Experimental Act in Creative Loafing's Best of 2011). The event is free, and Driving Downtown to the Show will be available for a suggested donation, in addition to Sara's first book of poems, Coiled and Swallowed.
