Gone With The Wind at the Strand

The Strand Theatre and The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum proudly present David O. Selznick's GONE WITH THE WIND based on author Margaret Mitchell's epic novel.

On December 15, 1939, Peachtree Street in Atlanta was a sight to behold as hoards of fans waited outside the Loew's Grand Theatre for a glimpse of Vivien Leigh, Clark Gable, Ann Rutherford, David O. Selznick, and other major cast members. The stars were in town for the premiere of Gone With the Wind, Margaret Mitchell's story of the Civil War and how it touched our own capital city. The fans however, were in town hoping to see "Scarlett" and "Rhett" the characters who won a place in everyone's heart who had read the Pulitzer Prize winning novel.

Even now, the film holds the number one spot in top box office draw with ticket sales adjusted for inflation. The book will turn 75 years old next June 30th and has never left the book shelves since 1936, selling approximately a quarter of a million copies annually. It remains the top selling book of all time after the Bible.
