Winning, losing, competing, getting along in this
world fill the pages of Stopped Cold, the
book I wrote for young people. It’s recommended by readers for teens and up.
I’m most often asked, “Why did you write this book?” Then, “Why did you put it
together the way you did?”

I wrote Stopped
Cold
, my Christian mystery with suspense and a touch of romance, because
the theme for it rattled around in my head for a long time. Finally, I coined
it into a sentence. You don’t have to be number one of God to love you.

Over the years I’ve seen heartache when people
aren’t able to be the best. In several instances the drive pushed them to
destructive behavior. I’m not sure if this phenomenon crossed my path more than
that of others or not, but some of the problems associated with it were so
terrible they touched my heart in a sad way that never left me. Stopped Cold shows the huge difference between
having to be the best and doing one’s best and challenges readers to use their
God-given gifts.

When I thought of being number one, even though I
realize people compete in everything from football to pie-tasting, sports came
to mind. What if an athlete took a steroid?  Then what if three amateur sleuths reminiscent
of the fun-to-read Nancy Drew / Hardy Boys mysteries chased the drug dealers?
That’s what happens in Stopped Cold.

Research included books on steroids, online articles
and interviews with several policemen. The latest check online stated steroid
use is going down, but 125,000 teens admit to trying them. The most common
reasons given are to enhance athletic performance or to improve their
appearance to attract a girlfriend or boyfriend. Some of the side effects of
steroids include altering testosterone levels, increasing bad cholesterol,
liver damage, heart attack and stroke.

Today’s society throws a lot at young people, in
some instances giving mixed signals about right and wrong. This makes it more
difficult to make good choices than it ever has been. It’s inspiring to see so
many young people making good decisions that lead to rewarding fulfilled teen
years and set them on a happy path. The more information they have, the better.

I’ll sign copies of Stopped Cold at Acworth Bookstore, 4857 North Main Street, on
Saturday, November 2, from noon – three thirty. The book’s also available
online at the following sites.
