Free Electric Car Charging Station Unveiled

Mayer Electric in Marietta installed the free station as a benefit to its employees, customers and the public.

Marietta is going electric. One of the city's first free electric car charging stations was introduced April 3.

Representatives from the , General Electric (GE), Clean Cities-Atlanta and Mayer Electric introduced the station at 1455 Canton Road.

Electric vehicles are growing in popularity. There are approximately 59 car charging stations in metro Atlanta.

"I started buying cars with better gas mileage than my previous car, and I finally found electric cars, which is the ultimate. No gas at all," . 

He currently owns a Tesla Roadster and a Nissan Leaf, which he says can be cheaper than owning a gas car. "There is less maintenance," Taylor said. "It's about one-sixth the cost to operate an electric car on a daily basis.”

Taylor takes his conservation efforts a step further by with the 120 photovoltaic solar panels in his backyard.

Marietta City Council approved one electric vehicle parking space for Marietta Square in 2010. Marietta's Economic Development Division is investigating a public electric vehicle charging station on Square.
