Victims, Suspect Identified In Mableton SWAT Shooting
James Edward Martin was shot and killed Tuesday afternoon after police said he was holding a young woman and a small girl hostage.

MABLETON, GA -- The names of the suspect and victims in Tuesday afternoon's deadly SWAT shooting in Mableton have been released. Police responded to a home on Lane Drive around 4 pm after reports of shots being fired. Police arrived to find the body of Jimmie Spruell, 80, who had been shot and killed. Officers attempted to remove her from the scene but discovered she was already dead.
Police said the suspected shooter was still inside the home and was holding two hostages: Jessica Adams, 24, and a 7-year-old female.
SWAT tams responded along with negotiators. SWAT officers eventually entered the home and rescued the two hostages. During the rescue, the suspect, now identified as James Martin, 26, was shot and died on the scene. The hostages were not harmed and no police officers were injured.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate the shooting, which is standard procedure for any officer-involved shooting. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s office for review.
