Grannis Sworn In As Juvenile Court Judge
The four judges of the Cobb Juvenile Court are appointed by the Superior Court.

From Cobb County: Judge Wayne E. Grannis begins hearing cases this morning in the Cobb County Juvenile Court after being sworn-in by Cobb Superior Court Chief Judge C. LaTain Kell at a ceremony held on Thursday, Aug 23 at 2pm at the Cobb Superior Court.“I am honored to have been selected as the new Juvenile Court judge in Cobb County,” said Grannis. “I want tothank the Superior Court Judges for their confidence in me, and for allowing me this opportunity to serve the children and families of Cobb County in this new role.”
Cobb District Attorney Vic Reynolds paid tribute to Grannis during the ceremony, for not only his commitment toimproving the lives of families and youth in Georgia, but also for his extraordinary character. Reynolds stated, “Wayne Grannis is a good man. Being a good judge doesn’t automatically mean you’re a good man, but being a good man goes along way in making you a good judge.” Reynolds went on to say, “In the political world, and certainly in the arena of political appointments, rarely do we look back and say that appointment was spot on. But today I believe everyone can agree, this appointment was the right one.”Chief Judge Kell administered the oath of office during the ceremony. “Wayne has dedicated his entire career to young people in many roles, and comes to us with a wealth of experience,” stated Chief Judge Kell. “The Superior CourtJudges are confident he will honorably serve the families and children in Cobb.”Grannis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Georgia, and earned his law degree atGeorgia State University. He has 24 years of experience in the juvenile court system, starting as a probation officer, and later representing abused and neglected children as a child advocate attorney. Grannis also served as staff attorney to the chief judge of Fulton Juvenile Court, and was Deputy Chief ADA in Fulton County before heading the Juvenile unit in the Cobb District Attorney’s Office in 2017.
The four judges of the Cobb Juvenile Court are appointed by the Superior Court. Juvenile Court judges hear dependency and delinquency actions and oversee three accountability courts: truancy court, juvenile drug court and family treatment court. Grannis was appointed to the Juvenile Court bench by the Superior Court Judges in July 2018,and is filling the seat vacated by Judge James R. Whitfield, who retired June 30.Cobb County Juvenile Court is an independent juvenile court organized under Chapter 11 of Title 15 of the OfficialCode of Georgia. The Court is dedicated to serving the residents of Cobb County by hearing all cases involving allegations of dependency of children under the age of eighteen, or unruly conduct, delinquency, or traffic violations concerning children under the age of seventeen found within its jurisdictions.
