Happy Chanukah / Happy Hanukkah from Congregation Ner Tamid of Marietta

No matter how you spell it, if you celebrate it, we wish you a happy Chanukah, Chag Sameach. Tuesday was the first night of Chanukah

Hanukkah, which means “dedication” and is also known as the Festival of Lights, is the festival that commemorates the purification and rededication of the Temple following the defilement caused by the Greeks during their occupation of that holy place.

During the 8 days of Chanukah, we light the candles of the menorah, which symbolizes the eight days that one day’s oil burned for.

Families come together to eat latkes. spin the dreidel and say the prayers of Chanukah. They also exchange gifts, which used to be a small amount of change or “gelt”.
