Hundreds Rally in Support of Marietta High School Principal

Forrestella Taylor is being reassigned to a districtwide position, but many people want her to remain as principal of Marietta High.

MARIETTA, GA -- Forrestella Taylor is one popular principal.

That was evident Tuesday night, when more than 100 people attended the Marietta School Board meeting. The crowd was showing their support for Taylor, principal of Marietta High School.

Taylor, the school's first black principal, , who is being reassigned as administrator for accountability and program support, reports Channel 2 Action News. Her supporters say she has made a huge difference in the lives of many who attend the school, and they don't want to see her go.

In a statement, school leaders said, "While some at Marietta High School would like to have Ms. Taylor remain in the role of principal, we believe she has remarkable skills that are beneficial to the high school in addition to the other ten schools in the district."

Students told Channel 2 that Taylor, even though she's been at the school for less than a year, is a role model and has pushed them to succeed.

Taylor's supporters all wore white to show their allegiance. 

The school board is holding a public comment meeting next week.
