Labor Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Cobb County

MARIETTA, GA — For many of us, Labor Day marks the unofficial end of summer. The kids are back in school, football is back on the television and, if we get lucky, a cool breeze here and there suggests that autumn truly is on its way.

This year, Labor Day is Monday, Sept. 3. Because Labor Day is a federal holiday, it means a day off of work for a lot of people and no school for children. As such, many government and other services will be shut down for the day.

Here's a look at some of what will be open and what will be closed in Cobb County on Labor Day:

• Cobb County government offices will be closed.
• Cobb County garbage pick up will be delayed a day on Labor Day week.
• For city garbage service details, check your city's website. Most will delay pickup one day.
• City of Marietta offices will be closed Labor Day.
• City of Smyrna offices will be closed Labor Day.
• City of Kennesaw offices will be closed Labor Day.
• Cobb County schools will be closed Labor Day.
• Marietta City Schools will be closed Labor Day.
• U.S. Postal Service post offices will be closed.
• Most banks will be closed.
• Most Kroger, Publix and other major grocery stores will be open.
• Most restaurants and other consumer-service businesses will be open, but it's worth calling ahead to make sure.
