Major Change In Shopping At Marietta Walmart

The worst part of shopping is the checkout line. Walmart is trying to change that with its Mobile Express Scan & Go service.

MARIETTA, GA — A Marietta Walmart store is part of an experiment that could change the way people shop. The world's largest discount retail chain has announced that it's testing new technology that would allow customers to avoid the most dreadful part of shopping — the checkout line.

In a blog post this week, the retail giant announced that 100 more stores across 33 states will get to try out its Mobile Express Scan & Go service. Among those stores is the Walmart at 2795 Chastain Meadows Pkwy. in Marietta.

Shoppers can download the app — available to both Android and iPhone users — and scan barcodes for their desired items using their smartphone. Once the customer has everything they want scanned and put into their shopping cart, they can pay right on the phone. Walmart said it "securely stores" credit and debit card information.

The Scan & Go service — already available at every Sam's Club store in America — also lets shoppers see the price of individual items as they scan them along with a running total — a useful tool for those looking to stick to a budget.

After paying, customers will go through a Mobile Express lane, where an employee in a yellow vest will zap their mobile receipt. And voila! Off to the car to battle rude drivers in the parking lot.

"Scan & Go is one of many options we're testing to give our customers the shopping experience they are looking for," Walmart communications staffer Justin Rushing said in the post."We continue to listen, test and learn – all to give our customers more options to shop how they want while also helping them save time," Rushing said.

Kiosks have been installed at some Walmart stores so shoppers can pick up handheld devices and test out the service for themselves before downloading the app.

Scan & Go is currently being tested in a few areas, including Dallas-Fort Worth, Orlando and northwest Arkansas. When customers launch the app, it automatically lists participating stores nearby
