Man Charged In Marietta Carjacking, Attempted Kidnapping

The man is accused of driving a stolen car to a grocery store, stealing a woman's car and trying to kidnap her.

MARIETTA, GA — A woman is safe after Marietta Police said a man stole her car and attempted to kidnap her from a grocery store parking lot.

Police said Wednesday the carjacking happened around 9 a.m., Dec. 6, in the 1100 block of Powers Ferry Road.

The man accused in the case was initially parked in a remote parking spot of the grocery store parking lot but moved his car beside the woman's car after seeing her walk into the store, police said.

The woman left the store, and when she opened her driver's side door, the man is accused of approaching her from behind and forcing her to get inside of her car at gunpoint, police said.

The man got into the driver's side, but as the car was leaving the parking lot, the woman was able to open her passenger door and escape, police said. She suffered minor injuries in the escape, police said.

An hour later, authorities found the car in a subdivision with the woman's belongings inside, police said. Later in the investigation, authorities said they found out that the car the man drove to the grocery store that morning was also stolen.

Randy Harmon is charged on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault - weapon, possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, police said.
