Marietta Among The Nation's Most Educated Cities

The city came in at No. 42 on a list of the 50 most educated cities in the United States.

Marietta is the nation’s 42nd most educated city, according to a new survey by Degree Query.

The survey listed the 50 most educated cities in the United States. Arlington, VA, came in at No. 1.

Degree Query researched Census data on a county level. Looking at the percentage of people 25 and older holding a bachelors degree or higher, it then worked its way back to the key cities and locales within that region that are highly educated.

The city of Atlanta ranked No. 24.

“One of the largest and most well-known suburbs of the Atlanta metro, Marietta contains the largest concentration of an estimated 457,919 people over age twenty-five in Cobb County, 43.7 percent of which holds a bachelor’s degree or higher. Marietta is home to one high school that offers an International Baccalaureate program, as well as two universities: Polytechnic State University and Life University. The city’s top employer is Cobb County Public School District with 13,371 employees, followed by not-for-profit WellStar Kennestone Hospital at 4,700 employees, and then the private sector’s YKK zipper manufacturer with 2,500 employees, Alere healthcare diagnostics with 1,766 employees, and Columbian Chemicals with 1,410 employees. Cultural offerings are close proximity to Atlanta, six historic districts within the city proper, and two museums, including Marietta’s Gone With the Wind Museum.”
