Marietta Artist Gains International Recognition

Lexington Garrick maintains a small studio at the Artisan Resource Center while spreading her artistic wings into foreign lands.

In the third grade of years ago, many little girls wanted to be princesses, flight attendants, actresses or maybe models, but not Marietta artist Lexington Garrick. She always knew her destiny would be to travel; she just didn’t know at the time that art would be the vehicle to take her there.

Garrick recalls dreams of going to India, riding the back of an elephant and traveling. But at no point did it occur to her that she could be an artist, whose work embraced on the world stage. She felt she lacked the artistic talent.

“I remember taking the Tippy the Turtle tests in the comics and doing terribly on them, so I thought it wasn’t for me,” Garrick says.

Fast forward 20 years, Garrick tall stands tall after a successful career in the world of art. She cultivated a curiosity of art into a serious business which works in tandem with the world’s largest art shows and fairs. From Art Basel in Switzerland to the art markets in Hong Kong to the Armory Show Contemporary in New York, Garrick works feverish hours on the international market.

“The advantage I have over other artists is that I know the business of art first,” Garrick says of her foray into creating art only 15 short years ago.

What began as a career in dealing art fueled her passion for creating art as well. Garrick says she began to take notice that not all of the artists she encountered, who were making real money by the way, used Tippy the Turtle as their measuring gauge. In fact, very few did if any.

Perhaps Garrick is best described as an abstractionist as she embodies the work that she paints.

“I love abstract form; it responds to that innate part of our essence as human beings.”

Yet painting is only a small facet of her interest, which also includes supporting young talented artists who often do not possess the business savvy to be successful in their work.

She considers herself a friend to the creative community facilitating forums, seminars, workshops, special events and more to promote creative expression among artists.

In an effort to realize more diligence in caring for the massive undertaking of her day to day activities, Garrick formed a joint partnership with Flech Williams, a former public relations specialist, to create the Garrick-Williams Agency. Together, they specialize in promoting the arts and creative endeavors.

Though Garrick’s knowledge of the art world is profound, her knowledge of “trivia facts” is unmatched as she jests: “I’m the coolest nerd you would ever want to meet.”

Making her way from small town Columbia, S.C., to being a bi-coastal artist and business owner with homes in San Diego and Marietta, traveling abroad for international art shows at the drop of a hat, or knowing Bill Lowe of the Bill Lowe Gallery on a personal basis is a dream-come-true for the third grader who once idolized Pippy Longstocking.

The Garrick-Williams Agency is promoting Art Atl (a collaboration between the Bill Lowe Gallery and the Hammonds House) at the Bill Lowe Gallery to be held on April 30. The event is the Hammonds House 10th Annual Art Auction. To learn more about Garrick-Williams Agency, visit www.preffects.com or contact them by e-mail at: garrickwilliamsagency@preffects.com
