Marietta Artists Explore American Tradition of Hook Rugs

Learn about the origins of the craft as a utilitarian object two centuries ago and its development into a mode of self-expression and even fine art.

Three Marietta artists, Sylvia Johnson, Millie Ore and Mary Ellen Von Holt, are showing off their passion and skill for hook rugs along with 52 other artists.

“Off the Hook” is an exhibition of approximately 200 handmade antique, modern and contemporary hook rugs that explore the tradition of this art form as well as new directions for the craft.

The largest art exhibition ever presented by the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center in Budford runs through June 30.
