Marietta Man Charged In Cobb Parkway Crash That Injured 2 Others

Speed and alcohol were factors in the car crash, police said.

MARIETTA, GA — A Marietta man has been charged in connection with a car crash Saturday that left three people injured, including the man, the Marietta Police Department said Monday evening.

The crash happened around 6:45 p.m. Saturday at Cobb Parkway South near Spinks Drive, police said.

Selvin De Jesus Herrera-Lopez, 31, is charged on suspicion of DUI less safe, open container, reckless driving, obstruction, tampering with evidence, failure to maintain lane and following too close, police said.

Herrera-Lopez, who was driving a 2021 Toyota Tacoma southbound on Cobb Parkway, is accused of speeding and failing to yield for a stopped 2018 Toyota Camry being driven by a 62-year-old Marietta man, police said.

When the Tacoma hit the Camry's rear, it caused the Camry to hit the rear of a stopped 2020 Jeep Gladiator being driven by a 41-year-old Florida man, police said.

The Tacoma barrel rolled one time, landing back on its tires on the roadside, police said.

The driver of the Camry was taken to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital with serious injuries while the driver of the Gladiator had minor injuries, police said.

Herrera-Lopez had minor injuries and was treated at the scene, police said.

Speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, police said.

Herrera-Lopez was taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, police said, noting he could face additional charges.

Marietta Police are still investigating.
