Marietta Man Convicted on Child Porn Charges
James Maddox was sentenced to 20 years on Tuesday, with five to be served in prison.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Marietta man has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of possessing and distributing child pornography.
James Colby Maddox, 32, was convicted Tuesday afternoon of four counts of sexual exploitation of children. Two counts related to his distribution of videos, one count related to his possession of a video, and the last count related to his possession of a sexually explicit still image of a child.
Maddox obtained the videos and images through two different file-sharing programs, and he kept the videos and images on two different computers. On one of those computers, he kept the files in a shared folder, which allowed other users of the program to obtain those files from Maddox.

“This defendant admitted having the file-sharing accounts, admitted that he had those accounts for downloading pornography, acknowledged that you have to type in search terms to find specific kinds of pornography, admitted he had seen kids on the pornography, and that it was left on his computers, but claims it was all an accident,” ADA Hannah Palmquist said. “He continually chose to view those files, and there were many files. If this were an accident, it wouldn’t be repeated over and over.”
Cobb Superior Court Judge Robert Flournoy convicted Maddox of the four charges but acquitted him of three other sexual exploitation charges. The judge immediately sentenced Maddox to 20 years, with five years to serve in prison and the rest on probation.
