Marietta Parks Announces Brown Bag Concert Series

1. this week announced the slate of musicians who will perform during the 2011 Brown Bag Concert series, an event held at noon every Thursday through May. The performers will take the stage in Glover Park at Marietta Square.

The performers include:

• May 5: Sonya Schell (Country) 
• May 12: Joy Parkman (Worship)
• May 19: Bob Geresti (Piano)
• May 26: Beulah Land Gospel Band

2.The meets for a work session at 1:30 p.m. and then for its regular meeting at 7 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Board of Commissioners Room at Patch will be at the regular meeting with live coverage!

3. The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre hosts the 2011 Shuler Hensley Awards at 7:30 p.m. today to honor excellence in high school musical theater. is up for for its production of The Drowsy Chaperone last November.

The awards are named in honor of Shuler Hensley, a native of Marietta, who is also a winner of the Tony Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, and the Drama Desk Award.

4. The Marietta City Council recently reappointed members to the Board of Appeals-Construction, Building, Electric and Plumbing; Board of Lights and Water; and the Marietta Development Authority. The appointments include:

• Gordon Brans to Ward 3, Chris Poston to Ward 4 and Allen Worthy to Ward 5 for Board of Appeals-Construction, Building, Electric and Plumbing for five-year terms expiring April 13, 2016

• Bruce Coyle to the Board of Lights and Water to fill a four-year term expiring May 11, 2015
• Steven McNeel to Post 1 and Ed Hammock to Post 2 of the Marietta Development Authority for two-year terms expiring April 13, 2013.

5. Today is National Kids and Pet Day. This day was created in 2005 by Family & Pet lifestyle expert, mother and pet lover Colleen Paige. According to her, National Kids & Pets Day is "dedicated to furthering the magical bond between children and animals and to help bring awareness to the plight of pets in shelters awaiting new homes."
