Marietta Police, Doughnuts Unite for Charity

1. tackle the doughnut stereotype for charity this weekend as the department participates in the 8^th Annual Cops on Doughnut Shops at the on Cobb Parkway near the Big Chicken. The event, which runs from 6 a.m. today through 6 p.m. Sunday, will benefit the Georgia Special Olympics.

Last year, Marietta Police raised $24,000, but this year they hope to crack the $30,000 mark.

At 4 p.m. Saturday, the fundraiser will feature a Doughnut Eating Contest in which you can see if you can out-eat the Marietta Police force. The winner is the person who can eat the most doughnuts in one minute.

2. The Glover Park Concert Series returns at 8 p.m. Friday, with all subsequent concerts occuring on the last Friday of each month through September.

The concert is free, but tables are available for $45 for a table for six and $55 for a table for eight. Call 770-794-5601, but reservations are on a first-come basis beginning on the first working day of each month.  Blankets and lawn chairs only. Picnics are encouraged and beer and wine are permitted. This week, the featured band is The Glow Band.

3. Time to get some key plants for the season. The Cobb Landmarks & Historical Society will holding its Plant Sale from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. today at the .

4. An Antique Gun and Military Collectibles Show begins at noon today at Hudgins Hall of the . The show ends at 6 p.m. and picks up again from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m on Saturday.

The show includes U.S. and foreign military arms, Civil War collectibles, books and collectibles of all periods.

5. Today is National Hairball Awareness Day. Actually, Marietta Patch doesn't appreciate when the cat makes him aware of hairballs. Who comes up with these things?
