Marietta Police Shoot Bow And Arrow Wielding Suspect: Police

Trent Emory, 29, is in custody after being shot by police after police said he pointed a bow at officers after stealing a car in Atlanta.

MARIETTA, GA — A carjacking suspect who reportedly stole a woman’s car in Atlanta Tuesday morning has been shot by Marietta Police and has been taken to the hospital, police said.

Police came into contact with the driver, who has been identified as Trent Andrew Emory, 29, of Canton, near South Marietta Southeast Parkway and Atlanta Street just after 7 a.m. after receiving reports of a car crash. Officers arrived to find that a vehicle had struck a bridge and expected to find the driver in need of medical attention, police said.

Instead, they found Emory grabbing a compound bow and arrow, which he pointed at one of the officers. A Marietta Police officer ordered the man multiple times to drop his weapon. When Emory did not obey the order, an officer shot the suspect, hitting him one time, Marietta police said in a news release.

Emory dropped to the ground near where they had been standing and refused to comply with additional commands, police said. A shield was brought to the scene so officers could safely approach Emory, place him in handcuffs and begin rendering medical attention, police said.

The incident took place after Atlanta Police were called to the 1400 block of West Peachtree St. after a report of a carjacking at 6:13 a.m. The victim told police a man fired an arrow at the windshield of her car, demanding she got out, Atlanta Police said, before stealing her Toyota Camry, police said in a news release.

Atlanta Police said that moments earlier, a man matching the description of the suspect, attempted to steal two others cars while in possession of a bow and arrow. One attempt involved a security guard who told police said the man attempted to steal his car but was unsuccessful. Police said they have spoken with a third victim who described the same suspect and said the person had a bow and arrow.

Emory was conscious alert and breathing when transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital moments later, police said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations reported that Emory is in stable condition.

The GBI is conducting an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting and a separate investigation regarding the aggravated assault incident involving Emory, the agency said in a news release. Once complete, the file will be given to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
