Marietta School Gets New Principal
Currently the school's assistant principal, she'll bring 15 years of classroom and administrative service when she begins on July 1.

MARIETTA, GA — The assistant principal at A.L. Burruss Elementary School in Marietta is being promoted.
The City of Marietta school board on Tuesday named Jillian Johnson principal at the school, on Manning Road. The 15-year veteran of teaching and school administration will assume her new post on July 1.
"Dr. Johnson is a strong instructional leader who develops collaborative relationships with staff and families she serves," schools Superintendent Grant Rivera said. "Anyone who has seen her with her students or followed her on social media knows she has a passion for the Burruss community and is committed to the success of every child."

Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in English Education from the University of Georgia, a master's in Reading Education from Mercer University and a doctorate in School Improvement, with a focus on educational leadership, from the University of West Georgia.

In a news release, Johnson said she is excited to continue serving the Burruss community.
"I love this community and I am honored to become the third principal in the school’s rich 30-year history," she said. "I am committed to honoring our past while focusing on the future."
Johnson will host a community reception at 7 p.m. on May 24 in the A.L. Burruss Media Center.
