Marietta Student Charged With Having Handgun On School Campus
Marietta Police said a loaded Glock 19 handgun was found inside of the 15-year-old boy's backpack.
MARIETTA, GA — A 15-year-old Marietta High School student was arrested Thursday morning after being accused of having a handgun inside of a classroom, Marietta Police said.
Authorities were alerted around 9:30 a.m. to the school after a student notified administrators that the teenage boy had the handgun, police said. School resource officers were then notified.
Police took the boy into custody without incident inside of a classroom. Police said a loaded Glock 19 handgun was found inside of the boy's backpack.

The student, who was not identified, was charged on suspicion of possession of firearm on school property and possession of firearm in commission of a crime. He was booked into the Youth Detention Center, police said.
"Every parent hopes that if presented with a situation like this their child will be brave enough to report the incident immediately, and that is exactly what transpired this morning. Due to the reporting student’s bravery and swift decisive actions by the administration and SROs, the incident was resolved without injury," police said in a news release.
