🌱 Multiple Accidents Paralyze I-75 Sunday + FY2024 Budget Hearing

Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:
- Multiple accidents occurred on Sunday, causing the closure of sections of I-75 in Marietta. The Marietta Police Department reported two simultaneous multi-vehicle accidents before 11 a.m. that day. One accident took place in the southbound lanes of I-75 near the S Loop, resulting in the closure of all but one lane, while the second accident occurred on the S Loop of South Marietta Parkway, causing the shutdown of most west lanes. The cause of the accidents is yet to be determined, and drivers were advised to seek alternative routes due to expected long delays. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- The City of Marietta has scheduled a public hearing for its proposed FY2024 budget, which is set to begin on Jul. 1. The hearing will take place on Jun. 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chamber. The budget, totaling $395.9 million, includes $73.7 million for the general fund, covering essential services such as police and fire services, parks and recreation, code enforcement, planning and development, and maintenance of streets and public works. - A man accused of involvement in a violent gang and already charged with the murders of two teens at a Sweet 16 party in Douglasville in March 2023 has now been indicted for the murder of another teen at a graduation party in Marietta last year. Tahkel Smart, along with two other suspects, was indicted for the shooting death of 17-year-old Grayson Green outside the Walton Village Apartments. Police and the families of the victims expressed regret that earlier identification and arrest of the suspect might have prevented subsequent tragic events. (11Alive.com WXIA)
