MARIETTA, GA — The story of a Marietta high school teacher of the year convicted of sexually assaulting one of his students from 2016-18 has been chronicled in a new Hulu documentary, "Betrayal: The Perfect Husband." The documentary series was released Tuesday.

The three-episode series depicts the January 2019 conviction of Spencer Herron, a former video production teacher at Kell High School who lived a life of "lies, affairs and criminal sexual assault," ABC News reported.

According to the Marietta Daily Journal, Herron's wife, Jenifer Faison, produced a podcast about her husband's cheating and crimes and inspired the Hulu series. The newspaper reported Faison also worked on the series.

A description of "Betrayal" mentions Faison and Herron were college sweethearts.

"It was the ideal marriage," Faison said in the two-minute series trailer. "We were soulmates. Little did I know that I was married to a man that had done something so horrible that it would devastate our lives forever."

Citing an arrest warrant, the Daily Journal said Herron made one of his students perform multiple sexual acts for two years at Kell High. He pleaded guilty in January 2019 and was sentenced to five years in prison and 15 years probation. He was released from prison in summer 2022.

The student shares her story in the series' final episode, "Across the Line."

Faison said in the trailer after Herron's arrest, she found photos of prostitutes and escorts on a laptop.

"He even cheated on me the week of our wedding," she said. "I never would've imagined the scope of what he had done."
