Newest MPD Officer Credits Parenting, Good Choices In Dream Job

The city's newest police officer credits good parenting and positive life choices with achieving his dream job of serving the community.

MARIETTA, GA -- Taurean Bowe is a familiar name inside the Marietta community as well as within the Marietta Police Department (MPD). Bowe said he “grew up in public housing within the city and had multiple opportunities to choose the wrong path," but knew he wanted to become a Marietta police officer since he was four years old.” He attributes his good life choices to the strong influence his family had on him while growing up, especially his relationship with his mother Adrianne Bowe.

Bowe was an active and decorated member of the MPD Youth Explorer program while attending Marietta High School. Shortly after graduation, the MPD announced a new Public Safety Ambassador (PSA) program and highlighted how this could be a new pathway for youth to eventually become a uniform officer. Bowe was one of the first to apply and get hired as a PSA.

Bowe met with MPD Police Chief Dan Flynn Wednesday afternoon for his final interview to become a uniform patrol officer. Flynn then announced he had officially hired Bowe to begin his transition into an officer.

“It is also noteworthy that the PSA program implementation is one year old this month, it has been an enormous success and now it has yielded a second very promising new officer," Flynn said. "The first, Denise Billings, is doing great as an officer and it is now safe to say that one benefit of the PSA Program is developing promising young people into strong police officer candidates with a jump on other candidates in terms of basic training in report writing, radio communications, knowledge of geography in the city and the ever important topic of effective policing via positive police-community relations.”

Bowe is now beginning what will be an extensive amount of required training to learn his new role within the MPD.
