NJ Man Arrested In Attempted Marietta Home Invasion: Police

Police said the man slashed one of the homeowners on the side of his face during an altercation.

MARIETTA, GA — An attempted home invasion Wednesday afternoon in Marietta resulted in one of the homeowners being slashed with broken glass and the suspect facing multiple charges, according to the Marietta Police Department.

A New Jersey man is accused of approaching the home of a husband and wife in the 700 block of N. Saint Mary's Lane around noon and knocking on the door. Afterwards, the homeowners confronted him and he then broke glass on and around the door as he tried to get inside of the home, police said.

The man then walked down the driveway, vandalized the couple's mailbox before heading back to the front door, police said. He is accused of damaging plants, glass and a table on the front porch; then, he tried once again to get into the house, police said.

The couple fought back, attempting to keep him outside of the house until police arrived, police said. During the altercation, the man is accused of slashing the side of the husband's face with a piece of broken glass, police said.

Blood was seen on the man's hands and feet when police arrived, police said.

When he ignored police orders, officers tased him, police said. A knife was found in his possession though police said he did not use the knife during the altercation.

Harjit Singh, 32, is charged on suspicion of burglary-home invasion, terroristic threats, obstruction, aggravated battery and second degree criminal damage in connection with the case, police said. He was taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
