Once Paralyzed, Marietta Bride Dances at Her Wedding

Jaquie Goncher broke her neck while diving into a pool eight years ago. But in May, she'd recovered enough to enjoy her wedding.

After being paralyzed eight years ago, a Marietta woman was able to recover enough to walk down the aisle and dance on her wedding day.

Jaquie Goncher, reports KTLA, broke her neck while diving into a pool. Through subsequent physical therapy and workouts, she regained some movement and could event stand and walk a little if she supported herself on a wall. She uses a wheelchair regularly.

But as her wedding, which was held in Atlanta in May, approached, Goncher wanted to do more: she wanted to walk down the aisle and dance at her wedding.

Goncher continued working with a physical therapist and worked out at a gym with help from her future husband, Andy. She eventually moved out of her mother's house and became self-sufficient.

On her actual wedding day, Goncher rolled into the chapel in her wheelchair. Then, with help from her mom and grandfather, she stood and walked down the aisle, to the tears of joy from many in attendance.

She also danced during the wedding reception. All told that day, she was on her feet for about four hours. Before then, she could only stand for 20 or 30 minutes at a time.

Since her wedding, Goncher is walking more but still uses her wheelchair. But she also has a cane, is is using it more and more to get around.

“What kept me going was my strength in God,” she said.
