Passengers On Cruise Ship Hit By Coronavirus Arrive In Marietta

The 34 Georgia passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship hit by coronavirus arrived early Wednesday morning, according to officials.

MARIETTA, GA — Passengers, including 34 Georgians, aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship arrived in Marietta Wednesday at Dobbins Air Reserve Base. The passengers had been quarantined off the coast of California due to the new coronavirus, according to Gov. Brian Kemp.

The Dobbins Air Reserve Base is located at 1291 Cobb Parkway, which is about 20 miles northwest of Atlanta. Two planes have been arranged to carry 271 passengers from California to the airbase, reports WSB. It’s unknown how many passengers were on the first plane.

All passengers were medically screened by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the base tells WSB.

“The passengers who were asymptomatic were transferred here and other federal military installations for COVID-19 testing and quarantine,” the base said.

The 34 passengers from Georgia will be taken to their homes to self-quarantine, says the news station. The remaining passengers from the East Coast will stay at Dobbins and Clay National Guard Center in Cobb County for 14 days.

According to the state, there are 151 beds available at Dobbins and 190 beds at the National Guard center for the passengers once they arrive.

Globally, more than 121,000 people have been infected and more than 4,300 people have died from the COVID-19, Johns Hopkins reported Tuesday. Of that total, more than 80,000 confirmed cases are in China, while the entire United States has 1,050 confirmed cases as of Wednesday morning. Twenty-three deaths in the U.S. have been tied to the virus outbreak.
