Reform Group Sponsors Cobb EMC forum

Cobb EMC Watch has asked candidates for the electric group's board of directors to participate in a forum. This tops today's 5 Things.

1. Following the recent criminal indictment of Cobb EMC CEO Dwight Brown, a number of candidates are seeking spots for the Cobb EMC's board of directors. During a forum at the Rib Ranch Restaurant at 2063 Canton Road, candidates will present their platforms and answer questions.

The forum will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m. A social hour starts at 6:30 p.m. with the regular program beginning at 7:30 p.m.

2. A second public hearing will be held at 9 a.m. this morning at the Cobb Board of Commissioners meeting at 100 Cherokee St. on changes to amend the code of Cobb County.

The 60-plus amendments include doing away with a provision that requires minutes be kept of the county manager’s activities, changing what happens when there is a vacant commission seat, requiring car washes to use some recycled water and adding new zoning codes for Mableton.

3. For more civic duty excitement, consider attending the Solid Waste Management Authority meeting at 8 a.m. in the commissioner's room or the county Board of Zoning Appeals work session at 1:30 p.m. at 1150 Powder Springs Road.

4. The Marietta High School varsity basketball squads take to the road to face Woodstock High School. The games begin at 7:30 p.m. at Woodstock's gym at Towne Lake Hills South Drive. Go Blue Devils!

5. Today's day is in honor of Marietta Patch's significant other as it is Extraterrestrial Culture Day... at least it is in New Mexico, which created the day as a memorial to the state's notoriety for the Roswell UFO incident of 1947. The memorial reads in part that the day is "to celebrate and honor all past, present and future extraterrestrial visitors in ways to enhance relationships among all citizens of the cosmos, known and unknown."
