Road trips when you’re young and single are fun. Road trips with a car full of kids are fun in a different way, but also filled with more responsibility. No more driving straight through except for a quick bathroom break at the rest stop at midnight. When we travel with the kiddos, it’s hectic. As parents, we put kid safety first on road trips.
Clothing
Your kids will hate it, but one way to keep tabs on your kids and easily recognize them is to dress your kids in similar clothes. You can dress them in the same color. If you do that you’ll be able to spot your kids in a crowd very easily. Make it fun though. Get t-shirts made for the trip specifically. Pick a bright colored cotton T and have the kids help decorate the shirt. Give your trip a fun name and have fun before the trip making these very bright shirts.

Implement a buddy system. You can’t be with your kids all the time. So make sure your kids have a buddy when they go to the bathroom.
Whistle
Go to the dollar store and pick up a pack of whistles. Tell your kids they are only to use them when they’re scared or if a stranger tries to touch them.
Car Safety
Perhaps the biggest challenge about a road trip is being in the car with kids. Any distraction can be fatal. It’s important to have measures in place so our eyes stay on the road with our hands on the wheel.
Mobile Devices. Texting while driving is dangerous. Secure your phone with a smartphone car mount. Enable your Blue-tooth for phone calls and then place in your sleek leather smartphone car mount.
DVDs. These will save you! Keep your kids entertained with their own portable DVD player. Make sure to pack headphones for each kid. Each kid can watch whatever movie they want with no fighting.
Designated Quiet Time. Enforce designated quiet times through out your trips. You decide how often and for how long. Plan these quiet times around naps.
Traveling with kids is fun, but it’s stressful and dangerous. This summer, make sure you’re safe with these tips.
