Sexual Abuse Of Child Results In Life Sentence For Marietta Man
Charles Garrett assaulted and molested an eight-year-old boy inside Garrett's apartment.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Marietta man has been sentenced to life in prison after admitting that he sexually assaulted a young boy in his care. On Monday, as jury selection was underway for his trial, Charles Garrett, 48, pleaded guilty to aggravated sodomy, aggravated sexual battery, child molestation and cruelty to children in the first degree. Between 2015 and 2016, Garrett assaulted and molested the eight-year-old boy inside Garrett’s apartment in the 1600 block of Roberta Drive.
“The amount of courage it takes to face an abuser is remarkable. This outcome was possible because this young boy and his mother were brave enough to stand firm and speak the truth,” said ADA Rachel Hines, who prosecuted the case with ADA Katie Gropper. “Hopefully this sentence will help in their healing.”
After accepting the plea, Cobb Superior Court Senior Judge Adele Grubbs sentenced Garrett to life, with 18 years to serve in prison and the rest on probation. He will be subject to sex offender monitoring for the rest of his life.
