Sleeping Driver Crashes Into Patrol Car, Fire Truck: Cobb Police
Cobb County Police say a driver who fell asleep inside a vehicle crashed into a patrol car and fire truck before driving toward an officer.
MARIETTA, GA — Police say a driver who fell asleep at the wheel of a car drove toward one of the officers trying to wake him up Sunday morning at Terrell Mill and Brookview roads.
Officers responded around 5:45 a.m. to the intersection after receiving a report of a driver asleep at the wheel of a black Mercedes SUV, Cobb County Police said.
When officers arrived, police said they found the driver still asleep inside the SUV.

A responding fire truck staged itself behind the SUV while a patrol vehicle was positioned in front of the Mercedes, police said.
The officers tried to wake the driver, but police said the driver did not follow commands.

Sometime during the encounter, police said the driver crashed into the patrol vehicle and the fire truck before driving toward an officer.
The officer then shot and hit the SUV, but it is unknown if the driver was shot, police said. Officers did not say at what point the driver woke up during the incident.
The driver then fled southbound on Terrell Mill in the vehicle, and after a brief chase, police said officers could no longer see the SUV.
The driver was not identified. CCPD's Major Crimes Unit is investigating the case.
