Teacher Who Created Slavery Game Faces Disciplinary Action

Students at Cheatham Elementary played a game where they portrayed slaves and rolled the dice as they try to escape.

MARIETTA, GA — The teacher who created a controversial board game to teach her students about slavery is facing disciplinary action.

The game involved students portraying slaves trying to escape on the Underground Railroad, according to CNN. Players would roll the dice and either escape or have to return to the plantation.

One of the students complained about the game to her grandmother, who in turn talked to the teacher. The teacher told the woman, Delores Bunch-Keemer, that no one had ever complained about the game before.

Bunch-Keemer was worried that her granddaughter was coming home upset about the game, having had to return to the plantation several time and felt degraded.

The Cobb County school district has since stopped the game.
