Voters Call for Term Limits for Mayor, City Council: Report

In Tuesday's vote, the non-binding measure wins overwhelming approval.

MARIETTA, GA — In a non-binding referendum, voters approved term limits for Marietta's mayor and city council in Tueday's elections, according to a media report.

More than 80 percent of the city's voters approved the referendum to limit Marietta's elected officiaLS to three four-year terms, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. Mayor Steve “Thunder” Tumlin said he supports the measure.

For the measure to take effect, legislators from Cobb County must win approval from Georgia's state legislature.
