Mom Injured In Crash Involving Her Teen Daughter Charged: Cobb Police

Police say a 13-year-old girl was driving a car that crashed into her mother at an elementary school in Marietta.

MARIETTA, GA — A woman is being charged after police say her 13-year-old daughter was driving a car that recently hit her at a Marietta elementary school.

Cobb County Police on Wednesday said investigators are charging Shumeka L. Johnson with reckless conduct. Police told Patch Johnson is the mother of the teenage girl.

The crash happened the morning of April 22 at an elementary school in the 800 block of Terrell Mill Road.

Police said the teenage girl was operating a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica at the time. A 4-year-old boy and a 6-month-old girl were inside while the car was stopped in the drop-off lane at the school, police said.

Johnson was standing in front of the Chrysler when the car accelerated and hit her, police said. The car rested on top of her, police said.

The car then reversed and crashed into a parked and unoccupied 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, police said.

Johnson suffered serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital, police said.

She was not in custody as of early Wednesday morning.
