Gay Atlanta Bar Threat May Have Been a Hoax

Police say threats against TEN Atlanta and Blake's may have come from an account that was hacked.

Atlanta, GA — Police say there are no credible threats against two Atlanta gay nightclubs and that a tweet referencing an Orlando-type terrorist attack against them may have come from a hacked Twitter account.

On Wednesday, police said they identified the individual who allegedly sent the tweet.

"We saw the posts yesterday and reported them to our Homeland Security Unit," said Atlanta police spokesperson Sgt. Kim Jones. "They have identified the individual and there is an active investigation going on. The person is cooperating with us. We are on top of this."

A vigil was held Sunday evening outside TEN Atlanta in honor of the victims in the early-morning shooting at an Orlando gay nightclub. TEN Atlanta is also where a mass celebration was held June 26, 2015, when the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage was a constitutional right.

The Pulse Orlando Night Club & Ultra Lounge was the scene Sunday of a massacre, apparently orchestrated by Omar Mateen. He killed 49 nightclub patrons and injured 53 others.
