More Than 146,000 Ballots Already Cast in Georgia

Monday was the first day of early voting in this year's presidential and Senate election.

ATLANTA, GA – More than 146,000 ballots were cast on Monday in the first day of early voting for the Nov. 8 general election.

Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp said 146,511 ballots were cast.

Thus far, 61,283 mail-in absentee ballots and 85,228 advance in-person ballots have been cast in the November election. There are 106,481 outstanding mail-in absentee ballots.

In the 2012 presidential election, nearly 2 million Georgians voted ahead of election day.

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are locked in a tight contest for president, with their final debate set for this Wednesday, Oct. 19. A new CNN/ORC poll released Monday shows Trump and Clinton statistically tied in the battleground states of Nevada, North Carolina and Ohio.

Trump and Clinton were also tied in Georgia in a poll taken just before their first debate on Sept. 26.

In the only other statewide contest facing Georgia voters, U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson is facing a challenge from Democrat Jim Barksdale.

Georgia voters can use the office’s β€œMy Voter Page” or download the β€œGA SOS” app to check registration status, view a sample ballot, find their voting location, or request an absentee ballot. Voters are advised to request absentee ballots well in advance of the Nov. 4, 2016 deadline to vote by mail in the general election.

Georgia law also requires the polls to be open on Saturday, October 29 in all 159 counties for Georgians to vote in the November contests.
