What's Open on Labor Day in Buckhead and Fulton County?

ATLANTA, GA — If you're thinking about waiting until Monday to take care of any business you may have with your local government, then you may want to tweak that plan.
That's because city of Atlanta and Fulton County offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5 in observance of Labor Day.
City and county businesses will return to normal on Tuesday, Sept. 6.

All state and federal entities, including the United States Postal Service, will also have the day off.
According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the holiday is the "creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers."

The New York legislature introduced the first state bill to recognize Labor Day, but Oregon was the first to actually pass a law recognizing the holiday in 1887.
Four more states -- Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York -- followed suit and by the end of the decade, Connecticut, Nebraska and Pennsylvania joined the list of states recognizing Labor Day.
Twenty-three other states adopted the holiday by 1894 and on June 28, Congress passed a law declaring the first Monday in September of each year a legal holiday.
