City of Monroe Fire Department Earns Top State Honor

Awarded 2012 Fire Safety Prevention Program of the Year by State Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner.

The Insurance & Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens presented the City of Monroe Fire Department as the 2012 Fire Safety Prevention Program of the Year during the annual Life, Fire & Safety Awards. Each year the State Insurance & Safety Fire Commissioner honors those departments and individuals that have outstanding performance to improve fire safety. The Ceremony was held at the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth, GA.

β€œThe individuals we honored today have made a personal effort to improve fire safety for all Georgians,” Hudgens said.

The recognition is due in part to the new Kitchen Fire Simulator the department is now using to educate the public about the dangers of fire in the kitchen. It along with other in depth prevention programs used by the department has reduced the number of fire calls and has led to saving potential lives and property from fire.

Captain Jack Armstrong the Fire & Life Safety Officer of the department received the award on behalf of the department.

β€œKnowing that a little bit of time and money has saved the homes and possible lives of our citizens is what this is all about,” said Armstrong. β€œIt took a combined effort to bring this program together and I hope we can continue to reduce the number of fires in our community through fire prevention.
