Julian Jackson to Leave Monroe, Takes Position with Peachtree Corners

Julian Jackson, city administrator of the City of Monroe, has been named city manager for the new City of Peachtree Corners.

Julian Jackson, the city administrator for the City of Monroe, has been tapped to lead Gwinnett's newest city.

Shortly after reconvening from a short executive session at Tuesday's Peachtree Corner's City Council Meeting, Mayor Mike Mason announced the appointment of the city's new manager.

"We've completed our search for city manager," said Mason. "I would like to introduce Mr. Julian Jackson."

Jackson, a 12-year veteran with the City of Monroe, said he was delighted to be selected for the position. "I'm looking forward to working with everyone in Peachtree Corners," he said.

The City of Peachtree Corners put out a press release Wednesday after Jackson had resigned his position with the City of Monroe.

"We looked very hard for several months to find the perfect City Manager for us, and we've done that in selecting Julian Jackson. His professional experience and integrity, combined with common sense is the perfect mix for us," said Mayor Mike Mason

Jackson joins the newly incorporated city in Metro Atlanta from the City of Monroe, GA having served as its City Administrator for 12 years. With Monroe, Jackson was responsible for the day-to-day activities of over 225 employees across seven operating departments including finance, planning and zoning, airport, transportation, sanitation, water, sewer, natural gas, and power utilities.

“It is truly an honor to be selected as the first city manager of Peachtree Corners. I am very excited about this unique opportunity,” Jackson said in the release.

Prior to serving in Monroe, Jackson was the assistant city administrator at the City of Roswell, Georgia, and prior to that he served as a city manager and finance director in several small communities in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

Since 2002, Jackson has been recognized as a Credentialed Manager by the International City/Council Management Association (ICMA), the benchmark of professional city/county management.

He is the current President of the Georgia City/County Management Association and a member of the Board of Directors of the Municipal Gas Authority of Georgia. He holds a Doctorate of Public Administration and a Masters of Public Administration, both earned at Valdosta State University. His undergraduate B.A. in Accounting is from the University of West Florida.

Jackson and his wife Stacey have been married for 24 years and they have two sons J.J., 20 and Charles, 16.

"We welcome Julian to our community and look forward to the positive contributions we know he will make," Mason added.

Jackson will officially begin his new appointment with the City of Peachtree Corners on Oct. 1, 2012.
