Welcome to First Presbyterian Church of Monroe

Are you looking for a new church to attend?  Maybe you’re new to Monroe, or maybe you’ve been here for more years than you care to remember.   I’d like to introduce you to my church, First Presbyterian Church of Monroe.

Our church has gone through a few name changes since its humble beginnings in 1923.  For many years we were known as Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church, but in 2012 we officially reclaimed our old name:  First Presbyterian Church of Monroe.  Our campus is conveniently located at 500 Breedlove Drive (at the intersection with McDaniel), just down the street from the old Walton Regional Medical Center building.

So what do we believe?  In a nutshell, Presbyterians believe the one God is eternally triune – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  The one God is sovereign, ruling over all things.  Jesus, who is God the Son, left heaven to come to earth, was born of a virgin, died on the cross for our sins and rose bodily from the dead on the third day. And  Jesus will return, physically and visibly, at the end of the age.

Like other Protestants, Presbyterians believe Scripture is God’s authoritative Word.  That salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ, not by works.  And that there are two sacraments, baptism and communion.

FPC is a nice sized church, with approximately 150 members.  Big enough to make a difference in our missions projects, small enough to know and care for everyone in the congregation.

Our worship is largely traditional, though some contemporary music is mixed in.  There’s some liturgy.  And our minister’s sermons are expository:  a book at a time, pretty much verse by verse.

Sunday School is for all ages and starts at 9:45am; worship is at 11am.  We invite everyone to participate in communion on the first Sunday of every month.  Some stay afterwards for our Service of Wholeness, in which our elders pray over them and anoint them with oil.

Activities include seasonal night school classes on interesting topics, weekday Bible Studies, and fellowship dinners.  We welcome families with young children, seniors, and everyone in between.

For more information please visit our website at www.fpcmonroe.com or our Facebook page at www.facebook/fpcmonroe.  Or better yet, come by this Sunday and visit our church.  Everyone is welcome.  We’d love to see you there!
